Cliffhanger alert!

I don't normally read these types of book but this one has good reviews and I couldn't pass up the forbidden bodyguard story line.
It was a little crazy at the start of the book. Kate and Sean were kind of thrown together and not gradually introduced. Of course she is forbidden but of course they want each other. There is no sex (penetration) in this book. There is however pages of oral sex given by Sean.
The cliffhanger is huge in this book and I will be forced to buy this series. I hate that the series is not complete. I hope the author doesn't wait too long before finishing. With only three books out and at least one more to come I will hate to wait!

There is something I like about this book but I'm just not sure what. What I don't like is Kate - which is not good considering she is the main character - how can a lawyer and billionaire be that naive and so unworldly. Have to admit I'm just not sure if I will even get the rest of the series as I just couldn't connect with the characters enough to keep me interested.

I simply loved this book! This book had everything, action, romance, intrigue, it was fast paced and kept me turning pages until I reached the end and that is when I immediately purchased the second book in the series. You must read this book, you will not be disappointed!

Not Outlander Series but Pretty Darn Compelling

I have hesitated to read other time travel romances because I thought they would all pale next to Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, especially her earlier books. But I have just gone through the Hands of Time trilogy on my Kindle and was up to the wee hours, even on work nights, finishing it. Sure, the plots and presentation of history were more simplistic and the characters less compelling than Jamie and Claire and company, but you could not help but like them and care about what happened. The writing was good and the story moved right along, unlike some overly detailed and dragging sections of Gabaldon's works. The physical romance involving Valerie, sister Louisa and their hunks of burning love were just fine - not overly done. I must confess to a slightly uncomfortable feeling my 21st century brain had with some scenes that included explicit sex involving 14 and 16 year olds. I love all I.Shapiro's books,but i think "A World Apart" is the best. Author is a
MASTER now.Her talent is blooming. Didn't want to do anything just read. The characters
are so complete and so real that you start to think about them as about PEOPLE not
characters.They are your friends and you don't want to lose them. It was so sad to
put this book down and say "good-buy" at the end. No doubt not just me,but a lot of
readers are hoping for the next chapter.

AND THE STORY CONTINUES . . .

In this third and last book of The Hands of Time Trilogy, the story continues with Valerie and Alec's son, Finn, accidentally going forward in time to the American Revolution after the inventor of the time travel machine found the sisters and their families in Virginia. While Valerie and Alec follow Finn into the 18th Century, Louisa gets herself into trouble when she blurts out what are considered curse words, in public, after falling into the mud. The sisters and their families are separated by circumstances and the tension is greater than it was in the first two books. The action is seamless from one book to the next and the characters are all very well developed and likable. I think that this was my favorite of the three books and I recommend the entire trilogy to anyone who wants a good read.

This book examines how American authors represent Frank in order to negotiate difficult questions relating to representation of the Holocaust in America, and in order to consider gender, coming of age, and forms of inequality in American culture in various historical moments; and of course, to consider the ways Frank herself is represented in America. This book argues that the most compelling representations of Frank in American literature are alert to their own limitations, and may caution against making Frank a universal symbol of goodness or setting up too easy identifications with her. It will be of great interest to researchers and students of Frank, the Holocaust in American fiction and culture, gender studies, life writing, young adult fiction, and ethics.

About the Author

Alex Thio is Professor of Sociology at Ohio University. Born of Chinese parentage in Penang, Malaysia, he grew up in a multicultural environment. He acquired fluency in Mandarin (modern standard Chinese), Malay, and Indonesian. He also picked up a smattering of English and Dutch. He took French and German in high school and college.

 

Professor Thio attended primary school in Malaysia and high school in Indonesia. He then came to the United States and worked his way through Central Methodist College in Missouri, where he majored in social sciences. Later, he studied sociology as a graduate student at the State University of New York at Buffalo, and he completed his doctorate while working as a research and teaching assistant.

 

Professor Thio regularly teaches courses in deviance, introductory sociology, social problems, and criminology. In addition to teaching, he enjoys writing. He is the author of the Sociology: A Brief Introduction , Society: Myths and Realities (Penguin Academic), and Deviant Behavior .

Great for school

This book came in as expected and I used it hardly for one semester. It was opened a few times for reference, and the binding fell apart. I was unable to send this back because of the poor quality of make.
