About the Author
Dr. Tom Prichard is one of the most respected professional wrestling coaches/trainers in the business. Starting as a teenager Tom worked in the Houston Wrestling office for promoter Paul Boesch and had a succesful wrestling career that included winning many championships along with a WWE Tag Team Championship run with his partner Chris Candido as The Body Donnas (Skip & Zip) with their manager Sunny. After his active wrestling days were over, Tom was offered to be the first ever coach of the WWF (wasn't "E" yet) developmental system in 1996 to help create new stars for the industry leader. Since the beginning of WWE's developmental system, Tom has been involved one way or another whether it was giving advice to a former student or coming back to be Head Coach once again and create world champions and Superstars for WWE. With over 30 years experience in and around professional wrestling, Tom is highly respected for his knowledge in and out of the ring. His passion for pro wrestling and sports entertainment is still just as strong today and continues to do camps, seminars and appearances across the country. If you are willing to learn

Tom Prichard. The people the man has taught, and the things the man has done should speak for themselves. He knows the ins and outs of pro wrestling, and what it takes to make it in the business of sports entertainment. Anyone looking for an outline as to what goes into becoming a pro wrestler should read this book. While he states that it is not a be all end all for training methods, you would be foolish to not be able to take something from this book. Be it your first year of wrestling, or more, there can be something learned from Tom.

An invaluable teaching tool.

This book can benefit folks on two levels: those who can actually use it as a practical curriculum (those who can actually go through the rigors of professional wrestling training), and those like me who may be physically unable to do it but want a better understanding of what it takes to be successful. With the territories gone, wrestling needs more true trainers like Dr. Tom, Rudy Boy Gonzalez and others to pass their knowledge on to the next generation. This book is a great start in showing the ropes.

I highly recommend buying this book, if you want to know what it takes to be a pro wrestler or if you own a pro wrestling school. The wrestling knowledge and pro wrestling secrets contained in this book are priceless. Tom also gives you good life advice as well. This book will make you decide you want to be a pro wrestler or not. I only wish I had info like this, when I was a pro wrestler wannabe in Florida and later in Ohio. Very good read.

About the Author
Leonard Woolf was born in London in 1880. Educated at St. Paul's School and Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1904 he joined the Civil Service in Ceylon returning to England in May 1911. With his wife, Virginia Woolf, he lived at the heart of the Bloomsbury Group, setting up the Hogarth Press with her in 1917. He wrote two novels, a number of works of non-fiction and a brilliant five-volume memoir. He died in 1969.

When the description says the book "may" include numerous typos, what it does not reveal is that the book DOES include at least twice, and often three times, on each full page of text a line break, the TITLE OF THE BOOK in capital letters, and the page number from the edition at the UC-Berkeley library from which it was scanned. I found these insertions so distracting that I immediately returned the book to Amazon and ordered a used copy of the out-of-print Oxford University Press edition from a different bookseller. I am deeply disappointed in Amazon for including such flawed produts among its offering.

The Village in the Jungle

The Village in the Jungle, a fictional novel by Leonard Woolf, associates a series of catastrophic stories with one another. The predominant figures are Silindu (a hunter) and his two daughters Punchi Menika and Hinnihami. This story itself is based upon several different significant themes, including fate, love and tragedy. Personally, I found the book an absolute delight to read, being both suspenseful and interesting. Although the book cover jacket will most likely lack appeal to many people, this is most definitely a situation where one should not "judge a book by its cover". The title, The Village in the Jungle is nothing short of appropriate to the theme and plot of the novel. The plot, in a nutshell, is about a man named Silindu, who lives in the jungle and resists fate at every turn. He is an excellent hunter with cunning eyes, hunched-up shoulders and a small dark face all pinched. His ability of traveling around the jungle exceeds those of the animals. The incredible descriptions Woolf utilizes in the story allows the reader to clearly picture Silindu and his quest. The climax of the story is about Silindu's journey, having caught an "eccentric" disease. He didn't allow his daughter Hinnihami to marry a man from Vederala in the first place. Thus it was said that the disease he has is actually an evil spell. No matter how much effort he tries to cure himself it won't happen unless he willingly lets his daughter marry the man. The plot itself is really exciting throughout the entire book, with a few parts that are fairly slower in pace. "Leafless trees, hot humid air, rigid branches, and spider leg stems" is a portion of Leonard's description of the Jungle. All of his descriptions are perfectly arranged throughout the story, in which it makes the readers fall into the fabricated jungle described in his plot. "The air is heavy with the heat beating up from the earth. There is a fear everywhere: in the silence and in the shrill calls and the wild cries, in the stir of the scattered leaves and the grating of branches, in the gloom, in the startled, slinking, and peering beasts." (Pg 6, Woolf) This is one of the best lines taken out of the novel, because it gives the reader a full picture of the setting in the story. I highly recommend this novel to anyone looking for a hero's novel, although copies are exceedingly rare to locate as there were initially only a limited amount of copies printed. Through this story we can evidently see Silindu's courage in facing problems in unfavorable circumstances. I personally believe he is a true hero, because he really did have the spirit in surviving and staying alive no matter what happened. Overall, this novel is definitely an extraordinary thrilling book for anyone, providing hours of entertainment for people of all ages.

fraudulent copy of VILLAGE IN THE JUNGLE

I have bought from amazon a copy of leonard Woolf VILLAGE IN THE JUNGLE. It was meant as a present to a friend but it turns out to be a scanned copy with little connection with the original. The return menu also does not seem to work. I am seriously concerned about this kind of reproduction that amounts to fraud.

Exploding ignorance

So much of what we know is just wrong. From internet facts to everybody knows that, we make things up and believe them, with nothing backing them but the knowledge that we all agree we knew that. And yet, by shifting slightly, Howard Wainer says we can outsleuth Sherlock Holmes.

Wainer demonstrates it in a remarkable lawsuit where he was called into aid a “professional license” exam taker who was falsely accused of cheating. Wainer showed the evaluation system, which looked terrific at first blush, was actually terribly inaccurate and unjustifiable. Wainer compares it to mammography, a parallel system that shows the same misguidance. In mammography, false positives rule. In breast cancer cases, only five percent of positive mammographies represent actual cancer. He shows this from mammography’s own impressive (at first) numbers. Testing for cheaters – no better. Ruining someone’s career over such lousy methods – unacceptable. Who said statisticians couldn’t be cool?

Wainer shows convincingly that fracking does cause earthquakes, that tenure in education is actually cheaper than hiring annually, that global numbers predict the breaking of sports records, and that the whole field of education is rife with truthiness based on gut feeling (and outright criminally rigging results).

He says there are three reasons why people won’t listen to the facts:
-A lack of understanding of the methods and the power of the Science of Uncertainty
-A conflict between what is true what is wished to be true
-An excessive dimness of mind that prevents connecting the dots of evidence to yield a clear picture of likely outcome.

The purpose – and value - of Truth and Truthiness is in its applicability. Wainer’s approach achieves results without computer power or advanced mathematics. The conclusions are self-evident if we follow the data. Just thinking this way – in the manner of data specialists – means better decisions for all of us. And so he rightly calls the concluding chapter Do Try This At Home.

Just don’t pick an argument with this man.

Statistics made entertaining? Yes, it’s possible. Let’s test it.

I loved this book. It’s not so much about statistics as about testing vs guessing. Author Howard Wainer writes in a conversational manner and with a keen sense of humor. The book was hard to put down. As I was reading the book I noted that a little over two chapters were missing from the advanced reader copy I had received. My first thought was too bad because I loved the book so far. My second thought was that when I write my review can I assume that the missing pages were as good as the pages that were there? I thought this because Wainer goes into a lot of detail about missing data. My third thought was that Wainer had already taught me to think like a data scientist. I strongly recommend this book for anyone who is involved in research.
As a postscript, I received the full book from the publisher and as suspected, the missing pages are as good as the rest of the book.

A book by a real statistician for the rest of us

There are plenty of books on statistics for the popular market. Many of them try to make statistics exciting but end up being boring or, worse, full of misinformation. Howard Wainer is in that handful of writers (Daniel Kahneman, Jordan Ellenberg, Andrew Gelman, ...) who know what they are talking about and are able to explain it to the rest of us in ordinary language. This book dares to spend a chapter on Donald Rubin's breakthrough on the intricacies of causal inference, on Hartigan's Inside Out Plots, and on how statisticians deal with missing data. If you want to learn how a statistician thinks (forget formulas), then this is your book.

Beverly Roberts Gaventa is Helen H. P. Manson Professor of New Testament Literature and Exegesis at Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey. She has published a number of books including Mary: Glimpses of the Mother of Jesus, one of the few books written about Mary by a Protestant woman.

Maternity Rather than Misogyny

Gaventa is an exceptional scholar and her writing is indicative of this fact. Her exegetical wisdom and keep depth of insight are neatly matched to her historical and literary knowledge and adept grasp of the breadth of the material. She brings to the table a well thought through, heavily researched piece of scholarship that is impressive in its thoroughness. Most importantly, she sheds light on several well-traveled scripture passages, and in doing so has the reader looking all about to the left and to the right in amazement at her ability to point out new and exciting territory. Gaventa's innovative discussion of Paul's maternal language and imagery and its implications are helpful for several reasons. First, the pastoral tasks of nurture, sustenance, and attendance can be understood quite differently when viewed through a maternal lens; and this has deep implications for the task of the church in the present day. Secondly, the necessary relationship of travail to transformation is more fully appreciated when Paul's maternal metaphor of labor is brought to its fruition; and so, the apostolic task can better be understood from the perspective of laboring for and with God and those in our charge. Third, notions of egalitarian vs. hierarchical are re-envisaged when revisited from the perspective that Gaventa introduces and then teases out. Gaventa's thoughtful and compelling third way of looking at the Pauline corpus provides a way for women to view Paul through the soft lens of maternity, rather than through the harsh lens of misogyny.

Excellent!

I have been studying early American (especially Puritan) history for years and find their unique culture fascinating (despite some political and theological ups and downs). I've been looking for a treasure such as this book! I find in it the original source for their Biblical thoughts and a unique insight into how they formed their theological conclusions. This is a must try-to-find (hey, I'll be realistic on availability) book for students of early American theology. One reviewer said that his copy didn't have the Apocrypha - mines does; I'm not sure what the difference between our versions is, but the one I received had the whole text.

Although I haven't really had sufficient time to study the theology and politics in the notes, I'm sure they will be as interesting and enlightening (for better or worse) as the Scriptural texts, themselves.

Definately happy with this purchase- sturdily bound, hansomly presented- and this will be in my family for a long time.

Wonderful work

This is a Bible I refer to more and more often. As a lay pastor and seminary student, I find the text itself, the notes in the margins, and the metrical Psalms in the back all to be invaluable.

One needs to keep in mind that it is reproduced in the original typeface (long "s" that looks like an "f", "u" is a "v", "v" is a "u", "vv" is a "w", &c.) and the spelling is interesting to say the least. However, this was THE Bible in early America until about 1750 and the popular Bible in England at least until after the English Civil War. It is also the Bible used by Shakespeare in his references.

This is a treasure of a book and a good look at how the Bible and worship (the metrical Psalms were sung in church services) were seen at the turn of the 17th century.

Legibility of 1599 Geneva Bible facsimile

Legibility is a real problem with this facsimile. The print is reduced in scale from the original. This makes the gloss very difficult to read. I have consulted an original 1607 Geneva Bible, which has the same format as the 1599, and I had no trouble reading either the text or the gloss. The gloss in the original is the same size print as the Scriptural text in the facsimile, and the text is correspondingly larger.
This facsimile is nevertheless still useful for reference if you need convenient access to a "Pilgrim" Bible that is undisturbed by modern editing.

Excellent book on order sets for interns who are without strong guidance.

I am an intern and finding evidence based order recommendations can be difficult if you have never admitted a case of say, meningitis before. This book guides you step by step into the exact and most widely accepted admission order sets for a wide variety of bread and butter disorders that you will get called to admit. Current Clinical Strategies is good, but it doesn't talk about dispo at all and doesn't really go over the thought process. This book is a definite ace in the hole and will reference you to articles that are seminal and foundational to the way we treat patients who we admit. I am surprised that I am the first one to review it.

Great reference

I am a free-lance costumer that travels around the country a lot for my work. This is the one book that travels with me as a basic reference for whatever the directors might throw at me. Most of the information is presented on a basic level (ie pattern blocks are for slopers, not finished garments), but a book would have to be the size of an encyclopedia to include detailed information on how to construct everything and would still miss something. This book gives you enough information to get you started and you can figure out the rest.
