An important book for doubters

The author, Lance Gregorchuk, has thoroughly researched his material and many of the questions that crop up as loose ends when the concept of god is under review are addressed cogently. He writes lucid prose that is an easily accessible and enjoyable read. There is no vitriol or ridicule of belief, just dispassionate refutation supported by logical reasoning.

Important Novel, Important Time

In a time when religion has filtered out its moderation in favor of extremism (I.e., the middle-East), this book presents itself at the perfect times. It has its moments of being witty, but don't let that fool you; it has its teeth. When I received it in the mail I anticipated another long, drawn out and trite pseudo-scientific babbling. What I received was a seemingly quaint but powerful dialogue on the endless cons of religion from a philosophical worldview. Absolutely great read.

Having bought "Great Without Religion", Mr. Gregorchuk's previous work aimed at helping kids from non-religious homes understand their place in the world, I was very excited to see he has written "Born Again Atheist" for adults. He has done a very good job of showing how main stream religions are not unique, and have actually borrowed many of their core fundamental beliefs from ancient stories and practices of other philosophies and cultures, right down to the story of the birth of Christianity's savior. Even if you think you've heard it all before, buy this book for Chapter 7 alone, where Mr. Gregorchuk's lays out his unique perspective on the death and resurrection of Christ, which is simply mind blowing!

Good story. DON'T buy it.

This is good, but it contains chapters of a bigger story, which are all in the "Infinity" collection.

Don't buy this. Buy the bigger collection instead. I bought this, then bought the bigger volume since I felt like I was missing a few things, and then gave this one to a friend. Infinity was a big, complicated story, but it was a good purchase, and I'm glad I've got that instead of just this.

Not Bendis's greatest work

I really could have done without the flashback stories where Nick Fury formed an Avengers team that included Sabretooth and Kraven the Hunter back at the end of WWII. Bendis was giving back story to the main plot that involved Luke Cage's team, but that could have been accomplished by using the Howling Commandos or by having a team that wasn't called the Avengers. That just seemed a little annoying to me. And I hated the scene were Namora has a whale jump out of the ocean to squash bad guys. You know what happens to a whale if it's on land? It flops around and dies. Yeah he'll probably squash some bad guys in the process, but he'll squash everything else as well, and that's hardly the most effective way to win a fight.

I probably would have enjoyed this more if Bendis had stuck to the modern Avengers and spent less (or no) time on pointless flashbacks.

A stretch of the series that isn't so special

This second massive collection of Brian Michael Bendis' New Avengers finds the series beginning a stretch that was far from the series' best (and would continue until the end of Civil War). Featured in this collection is new member Ronin, recruited by Captain America, whose identity actually turned out to be a bit of a surprise. Also happening in these pages is the revelation of just how Spider-Woman got her powers back, and just who she has been secretly working for. The latter part of this collection bridges events between the aftermath of House of M and sets up the beginning of Civil War, as this also marks the last time that the team is really together as a whole. Suplemental issues are included as well, including an annual and the opening of Giant-Size Spider-Woman, but as I said before, this just isn't the best of New Avengers. There is excellent artwork throughout however from a variety of talent, including David Finch, Mike Deodato, Frank Cho, and more besides, but this is far from Bendis' best work on the series. All in all, if you don't already own any of the single hardcovers or TPB's of New Avengers and want to take on the series, these deluxe editions are worth picking up, especially considering how much better the series does end up getting.

This book puts feng shui into its original landscape setting by someone who learnt it in 1976 before it all became a subset of interior decorating. This is still the clearest book in print. Read it with Lillian Too and Derek Walters and Eva Wong, and you have the real feng shui

Really well ordered book on a very complex subject, by someone who has studied in HK, Singapore under masters, and read texts in the original Chinese and applied knowlege. This book was first written in 1976, before all the ho ha about feng shui and contains material that still has not been grasped by later writers. A great reference book for people who are serious about feng shui!

Interesting and illuminating book for some

This book is either enlightening or disappointing depending on one's reason for buying it. If you're simply looking for a way to use the modern "art" of Feng-Shui" to properly position your toilet or arrange the furniture in your bedroom, you might be disappointed. However, if you're looking for a readable and illuminating introduction to the ancient "science" of Feng-Shui, this is the book for you!

If you wish to practice the modern "art", I suggest that you pick up one of Skinner's other books on the subject, such as this one :

What if everything you thought you knew about Hungarians and the Finns was wrong?

For almost two centuries linguists have promoted the idea that a group of languages called Finno-Ugrian share a common origin in the south Urals or western Siberia. These people evolved their language in isolation of other languages and today among their descendents are the Finns and Hungarians. Linguists claim these primitive people owed all aspects of their culture, and much of their language, to the Slavs who they encountered later.

But recent scientific discoveries draw into question everything linguists have been saying on this topic. Geneticists now agree that Hungarians are not related to the other Finno-Ugrian speakers; but rather, Hungarians originated in Central Asia. And instead of living in isolation, archaeologists now argue that the Indo-Iranian homeland was within the Finno-Ugrian zone!

In fact some of these archaeological sites are so similar archaeologists have trouble distinguishing if they are Indo-Iranian or Finno-Ugrian. While linguistics promotes the idea that Finno-Ugrians had a primitive religion with Shamans, archaeologists universally agree that the Finno-Ugrians were sharing religious ideas with the Indo-Aryans and were worshiping Indo-Aryan gods.

A complete re-write from previous editions, this book explores the possibility that the Finno-Ugrian languages are actually a form of adopted Indo-Aryan, commonly known as Sanskrit; adopted as the Indo-Aryans expanded mining and agriculture into the Finno-Ugrian zone.

About the Author
Frank Sandor is the youngest of four children born in Canada to Hungarian immigrants. His parents fled Hungary during the 1956 uprising after his father escaped from a Russian POW camp. Frank now lives in Maple Ridge with his wife and son. Frank has always been interested in anthropology, spending many summers in Utah studying its numerous archaeological remains. In his forties Frank combined his love of anthropology with the investigative skills he developed as a peace officer and the analytical skills developed from years of analyzing computer systems, and turned his attention towards the question of Hungarian origins.

Frank Sandor has an Associate Degree in Criminology from Douglas College, as well as having attended both the British Columbia Institute of Technology and Simon Fraser University. Frank is a former member of the American Anthropological Association. Frank's hobbies include traditional archery, bow hunting and robotics.

A superbly illustrated book in the highest academic tradition of scholarship. If I had a criticism it would be the need for more taxonomic treatment, for people like myself who want ot put names to things, but this is minor.
