Not a strong finish

After waiting for the final book, I am sad to say that it left me disappointed. The plot was predictable and the way she finalized the characters' love stories was too abrupt and harsh. Fyn's jealousy reminded me too much of Lence and not like the Fyn we came to appreciate. Orrade and Byren's estrangement left me uneasy. Byren becoming cold and harsh like Lence and Cobalt, not acting so much like the Byren we saw before. The near virgin pregnancy of Florin with the way she acted like a love sick puppy, not like the strong mountain girl she was originally cast as. All this just left me upset with the events of this book.

Characters left w/o completion

I loved the series, the chracters, the worlds, but I didn't feel like she wrapped up her storyline well w/ all the characters. Granted, I know you have to stop somewhere w/ a novel, but tie up the loose ends. You're left hanging w/ some main characters, and the no apparent reason appearance of Garzik, though engaging and wonderful, still leaves me baffled. I was disappointed she left Piro w/o a solid conclusion, and Byren loses everything. Her character development was beautiful and the story growth.

Great story! Five stars for this. "I love reading books especially mystery stories. My life is boring without reading book(s) each day. For this story, I really like this series. This is a mystery story, and the mystery unfolded nicely at the end. This keeps you guessing right up to the end. Almost every mystery has a twist at the end that I did not see coming in spite of a couple of hints that when I went back and checked, I should have caught but the hints were so skillfully woven into the dialog that I missed them. The writing style is really impressive. It is well written, easy to keep up with and a surprise ending. Ben is a really interesting character. I love the choice of words and how the murders have been described. I don't often write reviews for kindle books, but this author deserves a good review and is definitely someone I'll be following. If you like twisty plots, with a bunch of very likeable characters, I think you will enjoy this. I'm really looking forward to reading more by this author. " - AMAZON REVIEW

Ben raised his eyes and looked up from the floor. He saw both Halley and Ron through a red dense fog. 
"No, I don't think we have enough evidence to arrest him," he replied with a painful rictus.
"I thought so."
"Ron, I cannot let a guilty man go free, I'm not built that way. He leaves town today."
"And you have no reason to arrest him."
"No."
"And then he's gone."
 
Ben stood up slowly. He had calmed down. Maybe a little too much.
He was very placid, very quiet now.
Ron and Halley both thought they felt the glacial breath of death filtering through the air conditioning in the room.
 
"I'm sorry Ron, Halley. I have to leave now. I have important work to do. If I cannot solve the case, I'll tender my resignation tomorrow," he whispered painfully. 
Both Ron and Halley looked at him scared and concerned."Death is not on vacation any longer," Ron commented.
"Yes, he does seem a little scary when you put it that way, but I know him," Halley replied in a wavering voice. "He's a very good guy. He's so soft and quiet."

I enjoyed the story but really folks do real people speak like the characters in this book? I almost put it down but the story line was good. I just didn't like the speech pattern. We don't talk like that so I gave the boon a 3star rating barely 3stars.

The writer needs a proof reader. The main character had no depth. What ever happened to the son who got in the way of his work and the partner who suddenly were in love after a few hours? Give me a break. Would not read him again.

I did not like this book at all...maybe I just didn't like the humor, the way it was written, but I finished it, and could hardly wait until it was over. Giving one star, but really didn't want to give any.

A psychedelic masterpiece!!

Being an illustrator myself and a somewhat casual fan of underground comics, I had heard Jim Woodring's name mentioned several times with reverence and even caught a great interview with him on the Duncan Trussell Family Hour podcast, but I have to admit this is my first real exposure to his brilliant art. My wife and I were browsing in our local alternative bookstore and this immediately caught our eye and we couldn't put it down. We paid the cover price for it there ($22.99) and then I ran home and bought another one on Amazon (for around $16) to send to my brother for his birthday.

The art might not be for everybody, but it is brilliant and should be enjoyed by all with an open mind and appreciation of true craftsmanship. Jim Woodring is a cartoonist who draws upon personal and metaphysical experiences in his art and Frank is his signature character. Described by Woodring as a "generic anthropomorphic", he inhabits a surreal and sometimes terrifying world of absurdity known as the Unifactor. Woodring's drawing style and line quality are beautiful and unique and it's clear from the subject matter that he's no stranger to hallucinogens and not afraid of perturbing his, or your, consciousness.

The book consists of 27 separate tableaux, including the ones on the inner jacket, that have been painstakingly converted to 3D by Charles Barnard by cutting Woodring's drawings into 200-300 individual layers in Photoshop. As a fan of anaglyph 3D, I can say this is one of the best conversions I've ever seen. The illustrations really come to life when you put the glasses on and get drawn into Frank's world.

The pages of the book are very and sturdy, like a thick illustration board and as a result, my copy has warped a little bit, but I'd much rather have it like that than printed on thin paper. A pair of red/blue 3D glasses designed by Woodring are included and packed in a reusable, clear plastic envelope that tucks neatly into a window on the back page.

In short, I can't recommend this book strongly enough. I never get tired of looking at it and I'll be buying additional copies as gifts for some time to come.

Polar Heat Box Set by Terry Bolryder

Bear-ever Yours

Leah has won a two week vacation on a tropical island from a contest she doesn't remember entering. Her vacation package includes private scuba lessons with the very delicious Sky, the youngest son of the owner of the resort. Sky recognizes Leah immediately as his mate and sets out to woo her and teach her about her previously unknown bear heritage. Sky is my version of the ideal man, he wants nothing more than to love, cherish, protect, and cuddle with his mate.

Some Bear to Love

Just as good as the first one!!! Kim is a bear shifter who won a two week vacation on an island in the Grand Caymans in a contest she didn't sign up for. Sebastian is one of three brothers that their dad is matching up with their mates by bringing in three women who won this mysterious contest. Sebastian is a control freak captain who's first and only love is the sea and he doesn't want or have room for a mate in his life. Kim is using this vacation as a last hoorah before she is forced to mate with a male she's been betrothed to since birth and has never met. What starts as a fling quickly turns into something much more and both of them have their reasons for it to stay no strings attached, no matter their feelings for one another.

One in a Bear-lion

Scott is the oldest brother of three and runs the day to day operations of his father's resort in the Grand Caymans. After his father's disastrous mating, none of the brothers are interested in finding their own mates. Their fathers takes it into his own hands and brings three women to the island to mate with each of his sons. Mara is an artist who hasn't been able to create her art in three years ever since she acquired a stalker who desecrates her paintings and "gifts" them back to her. This vacation is the first time in a long time she has felt safe and hopes to be able to paint again. The chemistry between Scott and Mara is great and I love the reluctant but powerful protective instincts Scott has for her. This would have been very good book to end the stories of the three brothers, but I'm glad that it seems Sam, their dad, is going to get his own story. I'm really excited to read their father's story since the three brothers have decided they owe their father one for matching them up with their mates and want him happily mated as well. I predict good times ahead lol.

Remem-bear Me

What a great way to end the series!!! Sam has been doing his best to live his life after his mate left him to raise their three sons twenty years ago. After matching up all three sons to their mates, they try and return the favor by matching him up, the only problem is that he already has a match, their mom. One day, while watching his four grandkids, Sam opens his door to find none other then his long lost mate, Joanna, on the other side. Jo was shot twenty years ago and doesn't remember anything about her life before then. She sees Sam in a commercial about the resort and can't help but feel drawn to him and the resort. Sam and Jo spend a bliss filled week together before memories of the past start to intrude on their fantasy situation, Sam is afraid that when Jo remembers her bear, she'll leave him like she did last time, regardless of her promises never to leave him again. I am so glad that Sam finally got his HEA and I liked getting a glimpse into the lives of Sky, Sebastian and Scott's lives with their mates and kids. I'm sad to see the end of the series but at the same time it was a fantastic way to end the series without leaving anything hanging.

I love these series of books

I like the love stories of Sky & Leah, Sebastien & Kim, Scott & Mara, and their father Sam & their mother Jo. That Jo had left her family when the boys were young and Sam looked for her for twenty years hoping she would find her way back to her family. She came back with no memory of who Sam was but had seen a commercial that featuring the hotel with Sam in it and she hoped he could give her the information about her life. They all must overcome all the bad feelings they were left with when she disappeared twenty years before. It was not easy for any of them but in the end everything works out.

Totally loved this set of books, I read them one at a time, lucky you can read back to back!!! Was thrilled for the final book and the well deserved HEA!!! Each is a standalone, but the characters are entwined in each book, setting up the next in the series.

Interesting little collection from a lesser known pulp author

Once again, we have another great collection of pulp fiction from Altus Press (not "CreateSpace", that's just Amazon's PoD effort).

This volume collections several 'snake' inspired works by early pulp author Richard Sale, including his short-lived pulp hero: the Cobra! We get a great little intro by Will Murray, and learn that Richard Sale was like most pulp authors (and what most wanted to be): he started off in the pulps, and used that to move up to the 'slicks', then became a screenwriter and director in movies and tv, thus that his time as a pulp author is just a footnote in his long career.

Having an early interest in snakes and herpetology, he wrote several 'snake' inspired works, not all of which met with approve by pulp audiences (not sure why).

The first 3 stories are of his short-lived pulp here: the Cobra, which appeared in ''Ten Detective Aces'' as a replacement for Lester Dent's Blond Adder (a gadget-hero which predated Doc and recently reprinted by Altus Press!). The Cobra was really Deen Bradley, an American working for British Intelligence in India. He used a blow-gun with small darts using snake venom. Its unclear why the character didn't last longer, maybe the readers complained and he was dropped. Overall, the stories are interesting, and you can see a lot of potential, but you can see issues as well. The first story is set in India, the next in London, and the third in New York. As you go along, later stories refer to previous ones, and in the 3rd one there is reference to another event that wasn't reported. You can see some issues with how Sale handled the character.

Rounding out the volume are 3 snake-themed stories, two from the back of Secret Agent X, and the 3rd from Thrilling Detective. All are enjoyable, being more standard detective fiction.

Then there are 2 works from the Writer Digest. The first is a nice article on the need for research, using as examples many snake-infested fiction works. And the other a sort of story of a pulp publisher putting out a new hero pulp called "Cobra: King of Detectives". One wonders if and to how much the characters in that work are based on real pulpsters.

Overall, this is yet another nice little collection from Altus!!

Either the worst book or the GREATEST joke.

This book and all of the 4 and 5 star reviews must be a big joke; I can appreciate that enough to get over some of my anger of paying money for this. Joke's on me.

I read the first sentence, and I had a feeling I wouldn't be able to finish it. I forged on through the first page, though, at which point I knew it was nearly useless. I still wanted to finish it, so I could review it with authority. I made it 1.5 pages.

1. Horribly written. Bad grammar, misspellings and typos, sentences that make you want to grind your teeth, vague yet wordy.

2. Misinformation. In a section talking about plants: "A flower will produce either the egg or the sperm depending on the sex of the plant. Some plants will produce both, depending on their species. Yet in order to achieve conception, the plant needs to rely on other species to provide the connection between the egg and sperm."
Some flowers self-pollinate; peas, for example. The stamen and pistil are completely enclosed in the keel. I don't think I need to mention the poor usage of "egg", "sperm", "conception", or even "species".

3. Slanted, zero citation. The last paragraph is as follows, "No, in fact governments and individuals are producing energy in a more sustainable way. Most importantly, these official channels are changing their viewpoint about how the earth should be treated. It does not mean that the extinctions will stop overnight. But by creating the change we wish to see, we as individuals can have a greater impact on how the world and its organisms are cared for."

4. Not a self-study guide for biology! The chapters can be seen in the preview. Don't let the first two fool you. While you might think they will give you information about molecules and DNA, you would be mistaken. The rest goes through human organs, hormones, nervous system, brain and life cycles, including a lot of nothing in particular about puberty and menopause, and then photosynthesis, the biosphere, and mass extinction. That is mostly not information you would find in a biology class.

5. Book is technically 102 pages long. However, at page 64, there begins your special "sneak preview" of quantum physics. So... about 40% of the book is not the book.

It would be impressive if it were written by a 3rd grade child.

To say that the book is completely useless is a lie; the glossy cover would repel water nicely, so it could be used as either a head cover for rain, or a coaster. It's approximately 1/4in. thick, it might make a good furniture shim for that wobbly table/chair. And, perhaps the most bang for your buck, if you heat with wood, and I do, paper makes a great fire-starter.

I bought this through Ebay, and I didn't check any reviews first. Shame on me. Please use my mistake to your advantage; don't buy this book.

This is probably the best book for anyone who wants to have an in depth and general knowledge of Biology. It covers practically every topic one would see in a high school or college course, even going beyond that and talking in depth about other sub topics of Biology. Easy to follow, organized, and understand for anyone who is a newbie to Biology.

The book itself is well-written and interesting enough to read that after my class is over. The book explains concepts in a very easy way. It really met my expectations. I feel very prepared as a result of this book. I highly recommend this book.

The Rugmaker of Mazar-e-Sharif follows the extraordinary journey of Najaf Mazari from the despair of Afghanistan under the Taliban regime to the flowering of a new life in Australia. Unaware of the fragility of innocence in a country torn by civil war, Najaf describes his childhood working as a shepherd, an apprentice welder and, finally, finding his calling as an apprentice rugmaker.



"After a few months I was weaving simple quality rugs without assistance... but then came the more difficult tasks - learning to repair rugs, to stretch rugs, to match colours, make colours, create a design that does justice to fine yarns... It was during my initiation into the deeper mysteries of my craft that I began to understand how a world can exist within a single room. For when my concentration was at its greatest, it felt that the world lived in the yarns, in the colours and in the skills of rugmaking."



Family joy soon turns to tragedy as the war between the Russian forces and the Mujahedin violently thrusts its way into Najaf's life - first his elder brother is killed by a sniper, then his family home is destroyed by a stray rocket, killing both his younger brother and brother-in-law. Najaf, too, is badly wounded and is reduced to selling crotcheted socks on a street corner while his injuries slowly heal. Eventually returning to rugmaking, Najaf trains himself not to think too far into the future.



In 2001, the adult Najaf is captured and tortured by the Taliban. He is forced to flee Afghanistan, leaving his wife and child behind to place his life in the hands of people-smugglers, bound for an unknown destination. Half way across the world in south-east Asia, Najaf and almost a hundred other refugees learn for the first time that they are bound for a country at the bottom of the world called 'Australia'...
